After Jeannette passed away in 1923, her daughter Susan Bliss would later donate her mother's boudoir to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where it exhibited in the Wrightsman Collection, and her library room to Bowdoin College in Maine. After Susan passed away in 1967, the home served as the Clinical Psychologist Center for Marital and Family Therapy, the Bliss mansion was converted to rental apartments, whose former residents included actors including Candice Bergen and Al Pacino.

We'll soon be welcoming many new faces to this historical property, where the setting has been edited to celebrate both its female-spirit and cultural heritage.

Our Deluxe 1-Bedroom apartment, located in the iconic and exclusive Bliss House, has nearly 9ft ceilings, wide windows casting golden light, a mix of pale gray wool and off-white velvet drapes, giving creamy vibes.

Enter through a formal foyer appointed as a Milanese 1970’s inspired dinning area with seating for five, replete with a handmade custom Turkish travertine table, a pair of ripple dinning chairs by Sarah Sherman Samuel, a geometric plaster mirror by Rachel Donath, a limited-edition Tearoom sofa in Dedar Tiger Mountain velvet by Audo Copenhagen, a burlwood pedestal with a dramatic vase, art deco brass and opal glass sconces, and a curated collection of vintage artworks. Additionally, there is a spacious walk-in coat closet.

The Scandinavian 1950’s inspired living room has a dramatic seating area with a mix of vintage and contemporary decor from Denmark, and a curated collection of artwork, including a large scale painting by Portland artist Benjamin Ewing, as well as a library wall with desk space by FRAMA. Also, there is a 65” smart TV, above a vintage Danish credenza, with a pair of limited-edition Torso lamps with Dedar fabric shades. There is also a deep closet perfect for storing luggage, off-season wardrobes, and more.

The bedroom has an oak queen bed with a Parachute mattress and luxurious boucle headboard, wall hung night tables and bedside sconces, a Jeanneret bench, a burlwood dresser topped with a stunning vintage portrait, two closets, and bay window. Additionally, there is an ensuite bathroom with a double-wide sink vanity, two medicine cabinets, a shower with a glass enclosure, and wall mounted rain-shower and hand-shower. Lastly, there are two closets appointed with clothes organizers. 

Lastly, the galley kitchen includes panel ready appliances, a retro fridge, as well as a stone shelf adorned with antiquities and objets. There is also an all-in-one washer dryer, hidden inside the cabinetry.

Overall, the interior design captures the splendor of New York in the roaring 1920's updated with iconic mid-century works by Flemming Lassen, Tove Kindt-Larsen, Paavo Tynell and Tony Paul. In addition, the timeless beauty of today’s American and Danish creators including Athena Calderone, Atelier Plateau, Norm Architects, Sofia Tuffvason, Sarah Ellison, Sarah Sherman Samuel, Michelle Aero and Benjamin Ewing is featured throughout the apartment. 

And, the well-edited finishes and curated goods in our apartment are sourced from female-founded businesses like Parachute, Backdrop, Ferm Living, and more.

Our Deluxe 1-Bedroom on East 68th Street between Fifth Ave. & Madison Ave. has up to 8.5ft ceilings, & is thoughtfully curated, beautifully designed, & well-stocked with local goods for 30+ day stays.
