Sandpoint | Shelter Island | Modern Retreat with Pool

This is a beautiful home with a great layout, spacious bedrooms, a large kitchen, and excellent outdoor areas. However, given the high price point and its positioning as a luxury property, the overall experience did not match expectations. Ongoing maintenance issues—especially the non-functioning refrigerator—and the amount of time required to manage them with the property management company detracted from what could have been a true five-star stay. The pool was a highlight, and the guest house offers privacy and a good workspace. Pros ● Excellent layout, ideal for families ● Spacious bedrooms and great outdoor spaces ● Beautiful pool and gardens ● Guest house provides privacy ● Loved all the Books! ● Plenty of parking Cons ● The main refrigerator did not work for our entire stay. We were notified only a few hours before arrival, leaving us no opportunity to make other arrangements. Using refrigerators in the guest house and pool house was inconvenient, especially with an infant needing refrigerated breast milk, it rained the first two days (so had to go outside in rain to get refrigerated food) and then the a cooler was delivered two days later (after the rain) and not an ideal solution. ● One bedroom had a king mattress on the floor because the replacement bed frame that arrived was the wrong size. ● Several outdoor amenities needed attention. Pool umbrellas were broken or required repairs during our stay, and some outdoor furniture showed noticeable wear. ● The cleaning crew was still on-site until 5:30 p.m., despite a 4:00 p.m. check-in time. ● While the property manager did provide a credit after we raised our concerns, we would have appreciated more proactive communication and solutions from the outset. Offering realistic expectations before arrival, discussing alternative accommodations, or immediately addressing compensation would have gone a long way toward preserving the experience. Overall, this is a lovely property with tremendous potential. With better maintenance and more proactive communication, it would easily justify its luxury price point.

This house had everything we needed for a special time on Shelter Island. It was lovely, spacious and comfortable with all the amenities. Special kudos to the property managers who were incredibly responsive and helpful. Great experience, would definitely stay again.

My group had a fantastic time at Sandpoint and visiting shelter island for the first time. The house is very spacious and well stocked full of everting you need in the kitchen and for families. The guest house is a great option for anyone who wants a little more space and has its own small kitchenette. The pool and pool house also served us well with the good weather. Would absolutely return.
