"Shatemuc" was built by my own hands from the ground up on the shores of the Hudson River. The original inhabitants of these lands were the Lenape who called the Hudson River "Shatemuc," meaning "the river that flows both ways." The home's seclusion affords tranquility and connection to nature yet it is minutes from downtown Kingston. The exposed timbers, huge kitchen, enormous windows and bi-fold doors, deck, high-ceilings and spectacular finishes are one-of-a-kind. And then there's the view!

We absolutely enjoyed our 3 nights at this beautiful home! It was better than we expected. It was the perfect location for relaxing for our Mini Honeymoon after a busy week. The house is unique with high ceilings and beautiful structuring. It was open and airy and the view is absolutely stunning. We read and hung out on the porch often and was able to see so much nature and activity in the distance including fish jumping, a bald eagle on 3 occasions, osprey diving for fish, boats, canoes and snapping turtles. The bedroom has such good energy and I loved waking up to the natural light (I do wear eye covers every night even at home, so these were essential to sleeping in a little. Love that he offers them free as well.) The porch, kitchen and especially bathrooms were our favorite part! And the hidden room, loft was fun for us to find even if we didn't use it. We plan on going back for sure! Also, the town of Kingston is GREAT!! Nick was helpful and responsive!!! THANK YOU Nick!

Such a chic and unique place to be on the Hudson! The property is full of hand crafted magic and very well-maintained. The view and the sunrise were breathtaking. Nick was super responsive and you cannot ask for a better host. Very convenient to get to downtown. Absolutely a no-brainer when staying in the Hudson valley. Can't wait to get back next time!

Overall, the house was clean, the kitchen was well stocked, and communication was good. There were, however, a few details that future guests may want to clarify before booking. We booked the property because it was listed as an “Entire Place.” Three days before arrival, we were informed that the host lives in the basement of the same house and that the basement is not included unless an additional fee is paid. If complete privacy is important to you, I recommend confirming exactly which areas of the property are included in your reservation and make sure you have basement to yourself . The listing states that the home can accommodate up to 8 guests, but we had access to only two bedrooms (one king and one queen). So 2 rooms are good for 4 adults and not 8. the house has no curtains, blinds, or blackout shades. The natural light is lovely, but families with young children, light sleepers, or guests who prefer darker rooms may want to keep this in mind. Thanks

Shatemuc was the perfect stay for my family's get together! Such a unique home - the perfect blend of modern comforts (heated bathroom floors) and vintage character. You can tell everything's been thoughtfully sourced and curated and the house is full of personality. My dad, an architect, spent the entire time marveling at the design and details. Incredible view of the Hudson River and Rondout Lighthouse. I could (and did) sit and watch the ships and trains passing along the river all day long. On top of all that Nick’s truly a great guy! Hope to stay at Shatemuc again. Thanks Nick!
